This is an interesting approach to teaching students to appreciate music from another time in history. Students can really sense the mood of the time by researching the music. It would be fun to interview people from the time to discuss their impressions as well.
I really like the topic you choose (maybe because I am a history person). I like the flexibility for students to really do the project to their interest. How would you limit for students to get enough information but to cover many different topics? Would students be presenting these in class to educate other students on the many different topics? It would be interesting to teach these topics along with a history class so students are getting a lot of information from different perspectives. (probably the middle school teacher in me talking). Would you have students write the reflections at the end of the unit or through out the unit?
